A Note About Local Hospitals and Clinics

Even though abortion is legal in California, our local hospitals choose not to offer voluntary abortions, or at least not to publicize it. They do offer surgical abortions to people having miscarriages, a procedure they could and should make available to everyone.

The people who run these hospitals are afraid of controversy in our local communities, and may think these procedures aren't in demand. With more pressure, it is possible they will realize the very real need for all reproductive health procedures to be available in the Eastern Sierra. If you are able, contact them and let them know that abortions should be offered locally as part of the spectrum of reproductive healthcare.

Note: There is a clinic in Bishop called Options Pregnancy Center. This is a crisis pregnancy center run by a religious, anti-abortion organization and they will not help you get an abortion.

Update: There are local healthcare workers right now in Mammoth or Bishop actively working on becoming certified abortion providers! And it may be possible to get abortion pills prescribed by local providers, even though no clinic is publicizing that they offer that care.

They may not accept private insurance, and because they are in Nevada the will not accept Medi-Cal, but you may be able to find other funding.
